Behind Umber Garden Design is Mark Wright—a designer, craftsman, and landscaper with a First-Class Honours degree in Design, RHS qualifications, and expertise spanning forestry, oak framing, drystone walling, and timber craftsmanship.

Mark knows how frustrating it can be when a garden looks beautiful on paper but doesn’t work in real life. That’s why his approach blends creativity with practicality—ensuring every garden is not only visually striking, but also enduring, functional, and deeply connected to its natural setting.

As Operating Director, Mark wears many hats: designer, landscaper, project manager, and guide. He believes working directly on the ground keeps him rooted in his craft and in touch with what matters most—creating gardens that genuinely improve people’s lives.

For Mark, every project is about more than building a garden. It’s about shaping a sanctuary, transforming daily life, and leaving a lasting legacy that grows more meaningful with time.
